Alta Builders - owners

How did you get started in the industry?

I started my own framing business during a boom in development in the Dallas area. We built many types of homes ranging in size over the eleven years. When we moved to the Grand Valley in 2009, I went back to school at CMU to formally study Construction Technologies and Supervision. I also had the opportunity to work for a large residential company, where I learned the full scope of the building process, from budgeting to completion. In 2015, we had the chance to launch our building company. Having helped found the Western Colorado Latino Chamber of Commerce, we had professional resources and partners in our corner, especially Louise Goodman of Timberline Bank. It was the perfect moment to bring together decades of experience and my formal education to make our dream of building a reality.

We offer the complete package of services, from design to sales. Nicole is a licensed realtor with Robinson and Co. Realty. We love working with people through all phases of the home buying process. We know building a home can be overwhelming, so we are here to make it as smooth as possible for our customers.

Tell us about your background?

I (Carlos) grew up in rural Mexico where my family raised cattle and lived off the land. My wife Nicole grew up on Bernal Farms in Loma. I finished my education and then studied Philosophy before moving to Texas to work in construction, where I then met Nicole. She was completing an MA degree through the University of Notre Dame and working in the Dallas area. Our love of music and adventure brought us together. We were married 12 years ago, and moved back to the Grand Valley to start our family and business. We have three energetic little boys who love all of the activities that western Colorado has to offer. Nicole and I love the outdoors and to dance Salsa. One of the things we love most about owning our own small business is that it allows us to have a flexible schedule to spend more time as a family. We volunteer in our community and we work to bring our values and integrity into everything we do at our company.

We support non-profit organizations, scholarships, and sports teams. Nicole worked in the non-profit sector, and she currently serves on the Rocky Mountain Health Foundation Board of Directors. Carlos has coached youth soccer teams for his sons and volunteers in his local church.
